I have to tell you again how honored I am to be the Pastor of Legacy! One of our LifeGroups began to put feet to their prayers and passions to serve children--orphans in particular. Their convictions led to a connection with a program in our city called My Friend's House, "Collin County’s ONLY emergency shelter for young children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, abandonment or neglect is almost complete." (from their website)
We came in partnership with this program eight years ago through one of our members, Tiffany Nierdieck, who worked with City House, the city's teenage shelter. Legacy Church has provided support through volunteers, prayers and finances through these formative years. We joined many other organizations and churches who shared our desire to care for these children.
Through the lead of the Bowen/Jones LifeGroup and support from our Missions Team, over twenty of us spent Saturday morning planting flowers, cleaning windows, hauling trash, and doing whatever was needed to prepare the house to receive children the first of August.
We will continue to partner with this organization and its mission to care for these children. If you would like to volunteer at My Friend's House, go here. If you would like to know more about Legacy Church's mission efforts, go here.
Two stones that bear the name of Legacy Church rest in the walk ways to the two main entrances to the house. The Bowen/Jones group provided the stones and chose the verses for the markers.
The one that leads into the entrance for the children reads: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. -Luke 18:16.
The one that is in the walkway to the main entrance reads: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me..." Go by and see them, and say a prayer for the children.
