And the Nations Shall Praise Him

Ready to Serve It's Thanksgiving , and Legacy Church hosted its annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the students and families connected to the English Language Program . As a Pastor, I am seldom more proud of Legacy than when we provide the food, table hosts, and loving atmosphere for the international families in our community.  Lue Kraltchev, our Literacy Missions Director ,and her team planned and served the meal to over 400 students, their families and friends. Over 50 Legacy volunteers cooked, served and donated all the food and drinks except the ham and turkey meat. Full Plates and Hearts Legacy members and ELP faculty members also served as table hosts . They were the English experts for those who sat at their tables. I sat by two families from China, and we shared as much as we could about our homes, families, and language while sharing traditional, homemade Thanksgiving food. These table talks were where life connected to life, and hearts opened to the love of God...

A Cultural Fair and The Church

Legacy Church hosted our 5th annual World Cultural Fair this past Sunday. Lue Kraltchev , our English Language Program Director, brought a new look and a graduation program to the event. I love this event because we see how God has allowed us to truly impact the lives of people around the world simply by opening our doors to our neighborhood and meeting a need . When I was growing up I got the idea missionaries gave up everything and moved to some remote corner of the globe never to be seen again except every four years when they came home with their native dress, artifacts, and slide show of their work.  At Legacy Church, we challenge people on mission with us to be missionaries in his or her own mission field .  That means if we are planted as a church in a mission field of internationals, we will be God's missionaries to them. This means that wherever you live there is a people-need that can be met in the name of Jesus. This need is your bridge of influen...

Thanksgiving Heaven Style

If you have followed this blog for long, you know that Legacy Church hosts an annual Thanksgiving dinner for the students and their families connected to Legacy's English Language Program . Every year God reveals to us again a peek at heaven recorded in Revelation 7:9-10 : "After this I looked, and there in front of me was a huge crowd of people. They stood in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb. There were so many that no one could count them. They came from every nation, tribe, people and language. They were wearing white robes. In their hands they were holding palm branches. They cried out in a loud voice,    'Salvation belongs to our God,    who sits on the throne.    Salvation also belongs to the Lamb.'" (NIRV; italics mine) (I had concluded The Story that Sunday morning by teaching on The End! You can hear that message here . It was wonderful to get a glimpse of what we had seen in Scripture that morning the same eveni...

A Taste of Heaven

This past Sunday, our English Language Program , hosted our annual Thanksgiving Dinner . About 400 Internationals accepted our invitation and joined us for a traditional American Thanksgiving Meal. But, this event was more than sharing food with new friends. Not only did we meet the students and their families as we ate and talked about where we were from and how to pronounce Pumpkin Pie. We were given the opportunity to serve--a hallmark of Legacy Church . Legacy cooked and brought all the food, served it along with drinks and deserts, and served as table hosts for our guests. Yes, they even set up, decorated and stuck around to clean up and carry out the trash. The Church was the Church Sunday night. I heard one person say, "This is what church is about. Nothing brings me closer to God than when I serve others." I agreed.  The highlight for me each year is hearing the students reading Psalm 100 in their heart languages . We heard the Song of Thanksgiving in twelve d...
